Empty Slogans

JP Moreland writes an interesting post on how slogans, political or religious in nature, can be harmful to intellectual dialogue. Here are two ways, in which he says, slogan do this:

It gives people the false sense of security that they have given an adequate answer to a problem that removes the need for further discussion. Additionally, it removes the felt need required to motivate people to continue to debate the topic in hand and get to the real, substantial issues at the core of the debate.
