Happy Mother’s Day

May 13, 2007

I heard someone say one time that evangelizing to your children is like throwing stones on top of a frozen pond. You keep throwing and throwing, covering the top layer of ice with your stones. Soon the sun will come out and shine its heat upon the pond and the water will melt and the stones will fall to the bottom. As parents, we shower their hearts with the gospel, all the while we plead with the Lord to melt their natural hard hearts to let the gospel sink and birth new life.

My daughter is only 19 months. My wife’s and my desire for her is that through our words, she will begin to have categories in her head for something that can give her greater joy than any earthly pleasure – joy unspeakable. Mothers, labor to create categories in your children’s mind for Jesus and then plead that God would melt their heart to the gospel.

A big Happy Mother’s Day to Jena (my wife) and my own mother who have been and still are faithful in caring for their children to ultimately show them Jesus.
