Jesus: The Covenant Faithful God and Covenant Faithful Man

December 30, 2008

Mark 14:23-24, “And he took a cup, and when he had given thanks he gave it to them, and they all drank of it. And he said to them, “This is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many.'”

Some devotional thoughts on this passage:

Thankfulness:

  • Thank God for his great covenant that he has accomplished in his Son, Jesus Christ.
  • Thank God that this covenant is his work that we receive by faith.
  • Thank God for the the love within the covenant – it is a blood-covenant.
  • Thank God that it is a perfect covenant  because he is a covenant faithful God – even when his people are unfaithful.
Repentance:
  • Repent that you have not been a faithful covenant keeper.
  • Repent that you have bot been mindful of his goodness and have sinned ultimately against him.

Prayer for Help:

  • Prayer for help in remembering your great covenant of the gospel of Jesus Christ.
  • Prayer for joy that comes from the understanding and the knowledge of the Son.
  • Prayer for joy to overcome sin and rid your heart of idols.
Christ the Fulfillment
  • Jesus Christ is the great covenant keeper in the place of his covenant breaking people.
  • Jesus has the power and faithfulness of God to be both the covenant faithful God over his people and the covenant faithful man for his people.
  • Jesus is the one true joy, that the knowledge of him will be eternal life.
